coalition of more than 140 bipartisan members of the House of Representatives have signed a resolution that condemns the brutality of Iran’s regime, and its attack on Israel as of Tuesday.
Iran launched more than 30 missiles and airstrikes against Israel on Saturday, 99% of which were intercepted according to Fox News, after it claimed Israel attacked and killed seven of its forces in Syria.
The resolution, introduced by Texas GOP Rep. Randy Weber and signed by 145 members of Congress, highlights the weaknesses of the Iranian regime, and calls for protection of Iranian dissidents who have been targeted by the regime.
“Decades of a tyrannical regime in Tehran—destabilizing the Middle East and intentionally spreading chaos throughout the region—has culminated in Iran’s direct attack on our greatest ally, Israel. The rogue regime needs to be overthrown immediately,” Weber said in a statement. “Now, more than ever, the United States must support the freedom-loving citizens of Iran who have spent decades trying to eject these murderers from power in Tehran. Today, we condemn the godless mullahs who epitomize the head of the snake of war and terror in the Middle East.”
The resolution does not call for any U.S. military support, but rather focuses on helping Iranian citizens who are calling for a regime change through protection, and recognizing the rights of the Iranian people and resistance units to confront the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
It also supports President elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran Maryam Rajavi’s 10-point plan to make a democratic, secular, and nonnuclear Republic of Iran.
“I … wish to commend the valuable initiative of the representatives in introducing a new resolution in the House of Representative,” Rajavi said in a recorded message at a House briefing Tuesday morning. “This resolution offers a correct solution to the Iranian problem.”
Rajavi said the attack on Israel revealed that Iran was behind the warmongering in the Middle East, and that it was time for the world to open its eyes to a “real solution” that ends the appeasement of Iran.
“The only solution to prevent the regime from obtaining an atomic bomb is the overthrow of the regime by the Iranian people and the Iranian Resistance,” Rajavi said. “For many years, we warned that appeasement would lead to war. Today, a war that we could avoid has put the Middle East on fire.”
Members of Congress also touted the resolution’s work and the importance of the Iranian people’s right to fight back against the Iranian regime.
“We want to help the people reclaim their country,” Nebraska GOP Rep. Don Bacon said at the briefing. “We want the Iranians to live in a place where they don’t have to live in fear of their government.”
Notable signers of the resolution include Bacon, New Yorker and Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik, Republican Texas Rep. Pete Sessions, Democratic California Rep. Brad Sherman, and Democratic Illinois Rep. Danny Davis.
