iran-state-alignedIran state-aligned news outlet suggests military strike on resistance group on foreign soil
Fox news, July 30, 2022

An Iranian resistance group has urged European leaders to stop engaging with the current regime as Tehran threatens military action against its rivals – even on foreign soil.
The Fars News Agency, which is affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran, published a July 27 article calling on the Islamic Republic to “put military action against the MKO headquarters in Albania on the agenda,” claiming that the action would help to maintain “international peace and security.”

Ali Safavi, a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Paris-based National Council of Resistance of Iran, denounced the Fars report and urged western allies to do more to oppose the current regime.
“The brazen threats by Iran’s ruling theocracy against its principle opposition the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK) reflects first and foremost the extent to which the mullahs are terrified of the growing prowess and influence of the MEK-affiliated resistance units inside Iran,” Safavi said, calling the report “a pathetic attempt to blackmail western governments into offering it concessions. iran-mass-executionsIran arrests another Swedish citizen on espionage charge
AP, July 30, 2022

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iranian agents have arrested a Swedish citizen suspected of spying, the intelligence ministry said Saturday.
The statement said the suspect was in touch with several other figures in Iran, and has visited Israel, Iran’s foe. The statement accused Sweden of proxy spying for Israel. There was no immediate response from Sweden.
This is the second Swedish citizen Iran arrested in recent months. In May, Sweden confirmed that Iran arrested a Swedish citizen at a tense time for ties between Stockholm and Tehran.
Earlier in July, Iran recalled its ambassador from Sweden after a Swedish court sentenced Iranian citizen Hamid Noury to life in prison for committing war crimes and murder during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s. Read More

iran-escalates-enrichmentIAEA Chief: Iran’s Nuclear Program Growing
VOA, August 2, 2022

The head of the U.N. nuclear watchdog agency said Tuesday that Iran’s nuclear program is “growing in ambition and capacity” and his agency needs full access to verify all aspects of it.
International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi acknowledged that Tehran’s current nuclear program is very different from its 2015 program, when the deal with the major powers was agreed. He said everyone, including Iran, recognizes that.
“They [the Iranians] say they are making strides and amazing advances and the program is moving ahead very, very fast. And not only ahead, but sideways as well,” Grossi told reporters on the sidelines of the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT) review conference at the United Nations. Read More

Treasury.gov, August 1, 2022

WASHINGTON — Today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) took action against companies used by Iran’s Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industry Commercial Co. (PGPICC), one of the nation’s largest petrochemical brokers, to facilitate the sale of tens of millions of dollars’ worth of Iranian petroleum and petrochemical products from Iran to East Asia. PGPICC is a subsidiary of Iran’s petrochemical conglomerate Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industry Co. (PGPIC), which accounts for half of all of Iran’s total petrochemical exports.
“The United States continues to pursue the path of diplomacy to achieve a mutual return to full implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action,” said Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian E. Nelson. “Until such time as Iran is ready to return to full implementation of its commitments, we will continue to enforce sanctions on the illicit sale of Iranian petroleum and petrochemicals.” Read More
