•We see strength as the only way to deal with the theocratic regime ruling Iran. The Iranian people do not trust this regime; neither should the United States. Over 400 people have been executed since Hassan Rouhani took office.
•The Nuclear Weapons Free Iran Act, which a bi-partisan majority in the Senate has supported, enhances President Obama’s ability to pursue the diplomatic path and to prevent war.
•Congress has played an indispensable role in setting the framework of U.S.-led international sanctions that brought Iran to the negotiating table. The administration should recognize this contribution.

Dear Congressional Leaders:
As Iranian-American professional and academics in favor of decisive diplomatic efforts to avoid war, we write in support of measures to enforce the Iranian regime’s compliance with the Joint Plan of Action to which Iran reluctantly agreed in January 2014.
This is critical in preventing the Iranian regime from taking advantage of the nuclear talks to develop nuclear weapons. The Nuclear Weapons Free Iran Act, which a bi-partisan majority in the Senate has supported, calls for immediate additional sanctions in case the Iranian regime breaches its commitments. This measure is necessary given Iran’s history of deceit and subterfuge for decades.
The Iranian people do not trust this regime; neither should the United States. President Hassan Rouhani bragged about beguiling the West in 2006, “by creating a calm environment, we were able to complete the work on Isfahan.” Domestically, over 400 people have been executed since he took office. The Senate Act actually enhances President Obama’s ability to pursue the diplomatic path and to prevent war.
Congress has played an indispensable role in setting the framework of U.S.-led international sanctions that brought Iran to the negotiating table. The administration should recognize this contribution. Congress ought take a step further and clarify exactly what steps are needed to be taken to ensure that the Iranian regime is irreversibly denied the path to a nuclear weapon through uranium enrichment or plutonium reprocessing. As Iranian-Americans with painfully earned knowledge of Iran’s two-faced fabric, we see strength as the only way to deal with the theocratic regime ruling Iran. In such efforts, you have our strongest and unwavering support.
