There are many reasons why people in both the United States and Iran should support improved diplomatic relations between the two countries. It’s in the best interests of everyone to work toward Iran freedom and Iran democracy. To achieve a better future for the people of both these nations, as well as the rest of the world, here are some key points to consider.
Human Rights
First and foremost, it’s important to understand the significance of supporting human rights. Advocates for improved Iran policy call for pressure from international leaders to hold Iranian regime members accountable for their horrible human rights violations. Particularly in the last 37 years, Iranian dictators have persistently disregarded the human rights of its people, especially women, children, journalists, and members of ethnic and religious minorities. In the past four decades, an estimated 120,000 dissidents have been callously murdered, including some 30,000 political prisoners executed in just a few short months in 1988. Throughout Hassan Rouhani’s reign, the number of executions has rose alarmingly. Today, the regime in Tehran leads the world in per capita executions of citizens. It’s crucial that these inhumane leaders are held accountable for their despicable actions.
Threats of Terrorism
Another core component of Iran policy is defeating the terrorists and Islamic extremists that are running rampant in the Middle East. The US government has classified Tehran as the most active “state sponsor of terrorism” since 1984. Terroristic threats and actions are being used to destabilize the region and make demands. The current Iranian regime is one of the biggest supporters of terror networks such as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Sadly, Tehran serves as the center for extreme Islamist ideology that leads to bloodshed and horror. With this being said, it’s crucial that foreign leaders continue to take these threats seriously and come up with approaches and sanctions to weaken Iran’s terrorist population. The more that foreign countries band together to place sanctions and repercussions on Iran’s terrorist regime, the more promising the future looks. Terrorism in the middle East will have to be knocked down by withholding resources.
