McClintock Introduced House Resolution With Over 160 Co-sponsors in Support of a Free, Democratic, and Secular Republic in Iran

WASHINGTON – A broad bi-partisan coalition of 165 house members joined Congressman Tom McClintock (CA-05) today to announce the introduction of House Resolution 100, voicing support for the Iranian Resistance Council’s ten-point plan for a democratic, secular and non-nuclear Republic of Iran.
McClintock expressed the representatives’ united support for the protests in Iran, the opposition to the harsh oppression imposed by the regime over its own people, and its export of violence and terrorism throughout the Middle East.
This resolution recognizes that the current protests are rooted in more than four decades of organized resistance against the Iranian dictatorship, which, for years, has been led by women who have endured torture, sexual and gender-based violence, and death. Read More

House members introduce bipartisan resolution supporting Iranian protesters

More than 100 members of Congress co-sponsored a resolution on Wednesday that condemned the Iranian regime and supported protests in the country spurred by Mahsa Amini’s death in September.
The resolution, sponsored by Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA), was introduced to the House Foreign Affairs Committee with 165 co-sponsors and supported the protesters’ goal of a “democratic, secular, and nonnuclear Republic of Iran.”
The resolution also “condemned violations of human rights and state-sponsored terrorism by the Iranian Government,” according to an advance copy of the resolution obtained by the Washington Examiner. Read More

House lawmakers sharpen message on Iran by asking Europe to cut ties

House lawmakers joined together once again on Wednesday to unveil a resolution in support of Iranian protesters, but this time did so in a way that signaled a serious sharpening of the US Congress’ tone towards the government in Tehran.
A resolution unveiled the morning after Joe Biden addressed a joint session of the House and Senate for his State of the Union would once again declare the US Congress’ support for a democratic government in Iran while also including language implicitly calling on the US’s European allies to cut ties with Tehran by closing consulates and calling diplomats back to their home country.
The call for such aggressive action is significant for one reason: The bipartisan nature of the event, where the legislation was released. According to a source familiar with its crafting, the new House resolution has more original cosponsors than any previous Iran-related resolution to pass the lower chamber. Read More

US Congress introduces resolution in support of push for democracy and freedom in Iran

“The timing of, and the unprecedented number of cosponsors for, this bipartisan resolution, on the eve of the anniversary of the 1979 anti-monarchic revolution that overthrew a corrupt and ruthless dictator, reflect the forward-looking policy by Congress and its support for a secular, non-nuclear Iranian republic,” said Ramesh Sepehrrad, chairperson of the advisory board for the Organization of Iranian American Communities.
