US Congress to Consider New Sanctions Against Iran Officials
The US House of Representatives is planning legislation to impose sanctions on Iranian officials involved in suppressing current popular protests in their country, House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul said in a statement.
“I will be introducing legislation soon to sanction Iranian officials and other entities responsible for human rights abuses and hostage taking,” McCaul, a Republican from Texas, said in his statement on Tuesday.
“The recent demonstrations across Iran and the regime’s deadly crackdown simultaneously highlight the Iranian people’s thirst for freedom, as well as the desperate measures the hardliners will take to cling to power,” McCaul said.
