“On August 17, 2026, state news agency IRNA reported that First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Aref admitted to media managers that “inflation today is a reality,” warning that foreign adversaries are seeking “social collapse” through economic pressure in an environment of “neither war nor peace.” Aref explicitly cautioned that without immediate national cohesion, the country risks repeating the widespread uprisings of recent months.”
