Washington, DC; June 26, 2015 – Organization of Iranian-American Communities (OIACUS) welcome the release of much delayed U.S. Department of State Country Report on Terrorism. The Report briefly outlines many but not most of Iranian government sponsored terrorist related activity.
Iran, the report notes, “increased its assistance to Iraqi Shite militias, one of which is a designated Foreign Terrorist organization (FTO).” The report also reaffirms our community’s long held contention that in addition to the Middle East, religious fascists ruling Iran continue to use terrorism to expand influence, “in Africa, Asia, and to a lesser extent, Latin America.”
We remind policy makers and concerned citizens that Iran is a terrorist state externally primarily because it needs a foreign element/arm to support its internal suppression machine. As such, Iranian government’s foreign policy and terrorist behavior must be viewed in the context of its domestic failures and abysmal human rights record. As Madam Maryam Rajavi noted in her April 29th testimony before Congress, it has been through the existence of the velayat-e faqih regime that Iran morphed into, “the epicenter of fundamentalism” as well as “the godfather of extremists and terrorists in the Middle East” and beyond.
Country Report on Iran and its criticism of Iran’s violence through terrorism abroad is thus curiously void of any reference/relationship to Iran’s domestic behavior. This is especially significant given that Iran executes more of its citizens per capita than any other nation on earth and that a nuclear deal is now being contemplated with the country’s illegitimate rulers.
OIACUS again calls attention to Iran’s dreadful human rights record and its support for terrorism, which act as primary arms of Ayatollah’s plan to maintain and export their extremist Islamic caliphate. We appreciate the efforts of concerned citizens; dignitaries, media organizations, and NGOs who have helped us inform the current & future policy deliberations on Iran.
