Protests kicked off in major cities Wednesday after a call by activists and despite a severe interdiction of Internet traffic and almost near shutdown across Iran. Not having been able to fully stop citizen reporting from Iran, the regime has now resorted to shutting down not only mobile phone networks data access to the Internet, but also landline home connections.

Large scale and geographically expansive demonstrations today in Tehran, the capital, and in the northern, western, southern, and eastern urban centers and towns of Iran have again stunned the regime who deployed its most violent and brutal crackdown to date.

Ali Khamenei spoke today to reiterate that his regime will continue to suppress protesters who are calling for his regime’s downfall, while also signaling that his regime’s loyalists and apologists may be vacillating in the face of a general uprising in over 177 cities of all 31 provinces for nearly a month now.

Security forces have used machine guns and heavy weapons in a bid to quell demonstrations in the city of Sanandaj earlier this week as protests have continued with protesters in control during the night and regime security forces and army units patrolling streets and squares during the day.

The protests today were met with unprecedented violence in the past 27 days as plainclothes Basij and IRGC commanders teamed up with uniformed security forces to prey on protesters whom they beat with truncheons and shot at close range.
