The Free Iran movement, also commonly known as the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), was formed on July 20th, 1981. The sole purpose of the Free Iran movement is to bring justice and democracy to Iran. On July 1st, 2017, tens of thousands of Iranians gathered in Paris in a rally designed to raise awareness for Iranian independence. This annual event grows in size every year and attracts hundreds of prominent personalities, high-level politicians and political leaders, military officials, religious leaders, and former diplomats from around the world. In 2017, the rally was joined by many prominent American figures, including Newt Gingrich, John Bolton, Rudy Giuliani, and Louis Freeh, just to name a few.

The president-elect of NCRI, Maryam Rajavim, has stated publicly that “the only solution to free the people of Iran and establish peace and tranquility in the region is the overthrow of the Iranian regime.” She firmly believes that democracy in Iran is within reach. The Free Iran movement opposes foreign war and appeasement policies, advocates for improved human rights and greater freedom, and strongly supports any efforts to effect change from within the country of Iran. The Free Iran movement’s size and considerable resources and influence give it real potential to help the Iranian people demand their government become a more moderate and rational state. As more and more international leaders join the Free Iran movement, the pressure on Iranian officials to enact reform increases and the citizens of Iran feel more empowered to demand freedom and democracy from their government.
