Iranian -American Cultural Society of Michigan member network of the Organization of Iranian American Communities- U.S. (OIAC), sponsors the Iranian New Year (Nowruz) reception in Dexter, MI on April 2, 2016

Nowruz, a cultural heritage of Iran for the past 3000 years marks the beginning of spring, literally meaning a new day. The mullahs are an anathema to Iranian culture and traditions. Since coming to power, the mullahs have declared any celebration of cultural traditions as being contrary to their medievalist mind-set. For example, they have banned the traditional Festival of Fire, celebrated the last Tuesday of the Iranian year, when people from all walks of life, including the youths, women and others, lit bonfires and jump over them.

It is correct that Iran has a rich culture and heritage and is the cradle of many of the modern sciences, literature and art. But this has nothing to do with the clerics, who have always been a force for retrogression, trying to take Iran to the Seventh century. So, one must distinguish between the regime and the Iranian people.

We are inviting you to join your Iranian American friends and celebrate the beginning of the spring that we hope will bring happiness to every home.
